US states that pay the most on household bills and which are the most affordable

Doxo, the bill payment service, published a new report revealing that the average US household spends $24,557 a year on bills most essential items in the home, which represents 35% of the average household income.

According to the report, Hawaii, California, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Maryland they may feel more pressure, as these states top the list as the most expensive, while West Virginia, Mississippi, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Kentucky rank as the most affordable.

The findings include, for each state, the total monthly bill spend each month, as well as a breakdown of each of the ten most common household billsincluding:

· Mortgage
· Rent
Car loan
Utilities (electricity, gas, water and sewage, and waste and recycling)
· Car insurance
Cable and Internet
· Mobile phone
Medical insurance (portion paid by the consumer)
Alarm and security
· Life insurance

The report shows that Hawaiians spend $3,070 each month on the 10 most common household bills, which represents 50% more than the national average. At the other extreme, West Virginia households spend an average of $1,530 in the top ten categories, which is 25.2% below the national average.
