The cost of living has risen beyond what’s sustainable for many of us.
CNBC looked at consumer price index data since April 2021 to see how much more Americans are paying for everyday items. The cost of essentials like groceries, utilities and gas increased by 20% or more. The cost of all items on the index increased by 13%.
So, where do Lake County towns rank in household expenditures according to one bill-pay software company?
A doxoINSIGHTS report titled “Which Largest U.S. Cities are Most Expensive for Household Bills in 2023?” outlines the most and least expensive cities in the state and across the U.S.
A handful of Lake County cities were investigated, including Tavares, Lady Lake, Leesburg, Eustis, Mount Dora and Clermont.
Check out their findings and let us know if you agree.
Among the most affordable, Tavares ranks No. 190 in the state for household expenses, 25.8% less than the U.S. average, and the average household pays $1,518 per month, or $18,219 per year on bills.
The average household in Lady Lake pays $1,561 per month, or $18,732 per year on bills, 23.7% less than the U.S. average, ranking at No. 180.
A new studies ranks Leesburg as No. 177 in Florida in expenses. The average household in the Lake County city pays $1,596 per month, or $19,156 per year on bills. Household expenses in Leesburg are 22% lower than average.
Eustis, on the other hand, is the No. 120 most expensive in Florida for household expenses, and the average household pays $1,853 per month, or $22,231 per year on bills, and household expenses in Eustis are 9.5% less than the national average.
The closer you get to the Orlando metro area, the higher the averages are, of course. The average household in Mount Dora pays $1,928 per month, and in Clermont, bills total around $1,985 per month.
doxoINSIGHTS number crunchers don’t just play fast and loose with capitalization (the bain of AP-loyal journalists everywhere). They investigate the 10 most common household expenses: utilities (water, electric, gas and waste), cable, phone (mobile and landlines), auto loans, and auto, health and life insurance premiums.
Security systems, rent and mortgage are also factored. All data is anonymized and aggregated prior to analysis in order to protect doxo users’ privacy, the company says. Data for rent and mortgage are derived from Census Bureau.
